Engine Machining

We have recently invested in our own engine machining facility. As such we can deal with the complete bike, only the engine or just the parts that require machining. We can offer a fast turnaround on all aspects of engine machining, refurbishment and general engine repairs.

We have specialised measuring equipment to check all the components of a Harley-Davidson engine. We have the specialised tools and machinery to re-machine and rectify any faults or out of tolerance parts.
 

a) This is the Sunnen VGS-20. Widely regarded within the industry as the most accurate cylinder head machine manufactured today. Guaranteed to machine your heads to within .001” or less. Pictured is a TC88 cylinder head undergoing valve seat remodelling as part of one our performance packages.

b,c) As can be seen, the “wiggle test “ cuts no ice with us! Here we are checking the size and roundness of a pair of rod races and the pinion bush. We have the equipment required to resize rod sets and other critical lower end components to limits far beyond those specified by the factory. This helps ensure that your engine will last as long as if not even longer than the first time round.

d) Here an assembled crankshaft is checked for trueness on a jig used solely for this purpose.

This is just a small example of work carried out in our machine shop. At AMW we like to think that we can go that little bit further, for example we are one of the few shops in the world that actually machine hone our cylinders after boring to factory standards and have a machine used solely for this purpose. If it isn’t good enough for our bikes, then it certainly won’t make yours!
